3 Easy Ways To Spruce Up Your Yard And Add Value When Selling Your House

Posted on: 13 February 2018

While getting your home ready to sell, you may wonder if there is anything you can do to your yard to help improve its appearance while increasing the overall worth of your house. If so, try one or more of the following easy ways to spruce up your landscape and add value when trying to sell your house.

Remove Dead Flora

While looking at your yard, imagine that you are a potential buyer viewing your house and landscape for the first time. As you look around, see if you find any dead plants or limbs. Not only does a lot of dead flora detract from your yard, but it may also give the buyer a first impression of a haunted house instead of a comfortable home.

Before you put your house up for sale, either remove or replace any dead flowers or bushes. Also, cut out any dead branches and limbs from your trees. Doing these simple tasks can help bring vibrant life to your landscape.

Spread Fresh Mulch Around Trees and Flowers

Once you have rid your yard of its dead flora, you can add a pop of color to the landscape by spreading fresh mulch around any remaining trees and flowers. Not only does the mulch accentuate the plants, but it also provides a contrast that allows the deep greens of your lawn to shine.

When selecting your mulch, try to use a fine, dark variety that appears rich and moist. While you may feel you are saving money on the lighter, cheaper varieties, these types of mulch will fade in color and clash with the surrounding colors.

Give Your Walkway a Facelift

After taking care of your plants and trees, turn your attention toward your walkway. If you have flagstones that are barely visible, you can give them a facelift by digging them out of the ground and raising them up on mounds of fresh dirt.

Once you have the stones positioned, sweep off the excess dirt to clean them. Then, if you want to add an extra touch, plant a flowering ground cover along the sides of the walkway to give them a unique accent.

The above tips are meant to give you a few ideas on how to increase the value of your home while you are trying to sell it. For more information on how much your home is currently worth and how you improve the numbers, speak with your real estate agent.
