If You Can Dream It, They Can Build It: What New Home Builders Can Do Now

Posted on: 23 February 2018

Homes are as unique as the people who dwell in them. More and more, consumers are shying away from the "cookie cutter" house, looking for something that represents them. If you want something that is more "you," talk to some of the newest architects and new home builders in your area. Then, be sure to include the following information when describing to the builders and architects what it is you are looking for in your new and unique home.

Size Matters

Regardless of the shape of your house, or the materials you want, size matters. Dimensions are important to the design process, and no architect or home builder can create and build your home without the dimensions. Think about the square footage, and then how big you want each room to be. Consider the dimensions of your biggest pieces of furniture, too. This will help you describe and instruct the architect on how to design your home.

Style Preferences

Some people are hardcore colonial style enthusiasts. Others really want a very modern look. A lot of people tend to be eclectic in their tastes. Talk to the architect about what you like, what interests you, what fascinates you when you see a house or building, and what you definitely want incorporated into the design of your home.

The Bizarre and Unusual

So, you want to live in a house of glass, or in a dodecahedron made of steel and glass. If you can dream it up, an architect and a structural engineer can design it and get the proportions just right. Thousands of homes in the U.S. and around the globe are not quite what people expect when they see these homes, but yet these homes are so well-designed and well-crafted that they fascinate people too. All it takes is one dreamer, one architect, and one structural engineer to make it happen.

Modern Materials

There are so many new building materials to work with now. One hundred years ago, your options would have been wood, or brick/stone. Now you have those, plus steel, glass, and some manufactured materials. What you choose says a lot about your home, and it says a lot about you, too. Be sure to do plenty of research on all of the current available building materials so that you know exactly which materials you want the builder to use for your home. This also helps the architect and the structural engineer design the home, so share your thoughts on materials with them as well.
