Are you shopping for a small home? Perhaps you are already a home owner, but you have decided that it is time to downsize, Of course, you have probably thought of the fact that, by buying a small home, you will more than likely simplify your life. Besides having a smaller home, maybe you'd even like a small home with a minuscule back yard. Whatever the reason that you are looking for a small home, from assessing what you want in the home to deciding on where you want to live, here are some ideas that might help you as you shop.
What Home Features Are Important To You? - Thinking about your lifestyle will more than likely help you decide what you want in your small home. For example, if you work from home, you might want at least a small office. If you love to garden, consider buying a home that has at least a small back yard so that you can tend it, and maybe even landscape it yourself. Do you love entertaining? If so, consider buying a small house that has an open kitchen, living room and dining area. You might even decide to buy a house with an extremely small kitchen and focus on having an outdoor kitchen where you can entertain your friends with meals cooked on a grill. Will you be having overnight guests, maybe your grandchildren? If so, think about buying a home that has a loft that can be used as a bedroom or a family room.
Where Do You Want To Live? - Are you happiest living in a neighborhood that has an active HOA program? If so, tell your realtor that. Perhaps you are a single person or you are a retired couple who would love to be close to things like theaters, art galleries, museums and great shopping. In that case, the realtor will probably be able to find a great apartment for you in the city or near the city. If you want to live in the country, consider looking for an established large home that has created a house out of their existing barn. If you decide to buy that type of house, consider asking the seller if you will be able to have farm animals like chickens or ducks on the property. Find out if you can put up a privacy fence, too. If there's not already a fence, the owners might share the expense with you.
Keep these thoughts in mind when looking at new homes for sale.
