Important Kitchen Preparations Before Listing Your Single-Family Home For Sale
Posted on: 10 April 2019
The most important room in a single-family home is undoubtedly the kitchen. Not only do you use the kitchen to prepare all of your family's meals, but the table and counters are also used every day for school projects, home repair projects, and a wide number of other tasks.
When the time comes to list your single-family home for sale, it's important you show off its kitchen space in every way you can. While you might think the room needs a remodel, this really isn't usually necessary. Instead, do each of the following:
Show Off the Ample Cabinet and Pantry Spaces
One of the first things buyers do in a kitchen is to check and see how much storage there is to hide all of their food and various cooking appliances. When buyers open up cabinets and the pantry door (yes, they will!) it's important they see lots of empty shelf space and well-organized items. This shows buyers there is plenty of available space in the cabinets, and that it's easy to keep things organized in the pantry.
To make both the pantry and cabinets seem larger, stop stocking up on food, start eating your way through the pantry's contents, donate things you won't eat before moving, and put all of your unused small kitchen appliances in storage or donate them to a charity thrift store.
Clear Off the Countertops
To make buyers see how much countertop space there is for them to use to prepare food and complete family projects, clear off everything from the countertops. Put spices in the cupboards, store away your toaster and coffee maker, and place a nice potted plant or bowl of fruit on one of the counters to soften its look.
Warm Up the Kitchen Floor's Appearance
If your kitchen's floors and appliances make the room have a cold or industrial feeling, then you can easily warm the space up by placing a rug in front of the sink or stove. The rug will help bring a softer feeling into the room, and choosing one with a simple design won't detract from the rest of the kitchen's decor.
Freshen Up the Air
Lastly, before your real estate agent brings through buyers for tours, toss half of a lemon into the kitchen sink and grind it up with the garbage disposal. This will make your kitchen smell fresh, and many people unconsciously associate the smell of lemons with a kitchen that's clean.
