Three Things To Know If You Need A Short-Term Apartment Rental
Posted on: 6 February 2020
In most situations, landlords require one-year leases from anyone they rent apartments to. If you have the need for a short-term lease, you might have a more difficult time finding a unit to rent, simply because of this. There are options, though, and here are three things you should understand as you begin looking for a short-term place to rent.
You might need to make more phone calls
Knowing that one-year leases are the normal requirement with apartments should help you understand that it might take more work with finding one that will allow you to have a shorter-term lease. If you make more phone calls to landlords and property management firms, you might have a better chance of finding one.
You could offer to pay more for the unit and explain your situation
Secondly, there are some things you can say and do when calling around looking for a unit that may help you find one. First off, explain your situation. Why is it that you need a shorter lease? Are you between houses right now? Are you moving to a new town and looking for a house to buy? Are you going through a divorce? There is likely a good reason that you need a shorter lease, so you might want to explain yourself.
Secondly, offering to pay extra might be your ticket in. If you agree to pay extra per month for your apartment, a landlord might agree to it, especially if the landlord has a lot of vacant units right now. You could offer to pay anywhere from $25 to $100 extra a month just to find a place to live.
You might want to look into a furnished unit
One last tip is to make sure you look in the market of furnished rental properties. There is a much higher chance that you could find a furnished apartment that offers a shorter lease than an unfurnished apartment. Furnished units are often rented by the month. If you can find one that offers this option, it would provide you with a solution to your problem. It may cost more than an unfinished unit, but it would be worthwhile to pay the extra money.
While it is often more difficult to find a place that offers short-term leases, they are around, so keep looking at apartments for rent. You can also contact a local apartment manager to learn more about short-term options.
